How to Clean Hardwood Floors

If you have decided that you would like to have hardwood flooring in your home, then you will already know all about the advantages of doing so. However, you should also remember that there are a number of issues when it comes to hardwood flooring, and the most important thing that you should consider is cleaning the flooring. It can be quite easy to damage, and for this reason you should have a cleaning plan in place as soon as you purchase the product.
Prevention is the best form of protection
One of the main things that can cause problems is if a piece of dirt is dragged across the floor, as this can cause scratches. If you use your vacuum cleaner on a daily basis, you should find that this is enough to pick up any dirt that has been brought into your home, and this will stop it from causing a problem later on. If you have children or pets, you may find that it would help if you did this more than once each day.
Avoid water based cleaning products
Because putting water on a hardwood floor can cause the wood to warp, you should avoid doing this. Instead, you should purchase some wood floor wipes from either your local supermarket or hardwood store. These are damp, meaning that they can do the job that they aim to, however they will not be wet enough to cause any damage.
If you have a stain, then it is vital that you act as quickly as possible. Sometimes, just using the wipes will be enough, but if there is still a stain remaining then it is a good idea to make up a solution of water and vinegar. You should still be careful not to put too much water on the floor at once, however you will be able to put a little of the solution on the cloth to rub at the stain, and this will help to remove it. When there are stains that you cannot deal with using this method, you should hire a hardwood floor cleaning company, as they will have better, professional equipment which will help you to deal with these issues.
As a general rule, you will find that as long as you look after your hardwood flooring, you should be able to keep it clean, which will therefore maintain the look that you are trying to achieve in your home.
